A journey of contemplation and misadventure as I attempt, mostly unsuccessfully, to re-live a bicycle trip I first embarked on as a fresh-faced 20 year old.
More than 40 years ago I headed south with a guy I met at Liverpool Street station in London.
Enfield to Athens on a tandem.
They said it couldn’t be done.
For the re-run I was better prepared, or so I thought. But, as it turned out it didn’t really matter.
My Brother’s Bicycle is a story of (limited) endurance, survival (over boredom) and the indomitable human spirit.
What people have said about My Brother’s Bicycle
The style is conversational and very amusing. Les manages to put you in his shoes and gives you the opportunity to pedal along in his wake. A great read – highly recommended.
Most of all I found the writing style to be witty and entertaining and in the end this ensured that I read this almost in one go not wanting to put it down.
Les Stanley certainly has a way with words and a great sense of humor.
I had a smile on my face through most of this quirky memoir.
Like talking to a hilarious friend! I actually laughed out loud, was filled with anxiety and pondered my own life choices.
